The Embroiders Guild, Blue Mountains branch invited me to teach a workshop for 2 days to make a Coptic stitched book and a box to put that book in.
I had 9 students and all of them completed 3 books and one box.
On the Saturday we started by making a book from scratch, cutting pages and making a cover and stitching the book with Coptic stitch. We then cut out boxboard to make the box.
On Sunday we covered the box and then the students decided that they would make more books of different sizes. One student decided to stitch her book with a Celtic weave which turned out very well. Another student had embroidered a cover and we were able to fit a number of signatures into her cover, which was to be a present going to her family in New Zealand.
The workshop ran from 10.00am to 4.30pm each day. There was a short break for lunch each day and I say short because they were so keen to get work completed, which they did and nobody went home with an unfinished object.
All in all very successful weekend.
